Sports Physiotherapy Level 1

This course will explore the theoretical and practical sides of managing sporting injuries with an emphasis on current research. Presented topics include shoulder, ankle and knee injuries with focus specifically on ligament, tendon and muscle. Participants will also gain information on acute onfield management and travelling with a sports team, as well as a large practical component on taping techniques. This course is a mandatory part of the experiential titling pathway in Sports Physiotherapy.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Demonstrate an ability to assess, diagnose and formulate an appropriate acute treatment plan for injuries of the ankle.
  2. Demonstrate an ability to assess, diagnose and formulate an appropriate acute treatment plan for injuries of the knee.
  3. Apply knowledge of functional anatomy and biomechanics of the upper limb to the assessment, diagnosis and acute management of shoulder injuries.
  4. Demonstrate knowledge and practical skills to assess and manage on-field injuries, and specifically demonstrate knowledge of an effective examination and treatment of injuries to the spine on the sporting arena.
  5. Identify the injury prevention, assessment, management and rehabilitation roles of sports physiotherapist in a team situation.
