Introduction To Pilates for Neurological Clients


This course is designed for physiotherapists with some experience of working with neurological patients, but who have little or no Pilates experience. This course aims to introduce some Pilates exercises and equipment, the principles, and how they can be applied when rehabilitating clients with neurological conditions.

Learning outcomes
At the completion of this course, you should be able to:

• Appreciate the historical development of the Pilates method

• Outline the fundamental philosophy and principles underlying the Pilates method

• Understand the research evidence for the efficacy of the Pilates method

• Understand the benefit of the Pilates method for neurologically normal individuals and individuals with neurological impairment

• Demonstrate and apply appropriate exercises using the Pilates method, and understand the rationale for their application to specific neurological impairments

• Understand how the Pilates method can be applied to treating a neurological client
