Exercise Prescription for Patients With Cancer
Exercise Prescription for Patients with Cancer: Clinical Application & Research Update
World-wide there were an estimated 17.5 million new cancer diagnoses and 8.7 million deaths due to cancer in 2015. Contributing factors to these numbers include population aging and growth. Continued developments in treatment options available to people with cancer have resulted in increased numbers of people living longer with the disease. People with cancer commonly present with functional limitations, low physical activity levels and poorly controlled symptoms and also frequently have comorbid diseases. Managing these complex issues places further strain on the healthcare system, patients and their caregivers. Supportive care interventions are being more frequently looked to in efforts to fulfil unmet needs for people along the cancer continuum (from prehabilitation to survivorship).
