Cystic Fibrosis: Physio Management Across the Lifespan
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is an inherited genetic disorder affecting 1 in 2500 Australian babies each year. Although a multi-system disorder, CF significantly affects the respiratory system as a result of excessive mucus production. This leads to recurrent infections and subsequent irreversible lung damage. Physiotherapists therefore play a major role in providing assistance and education regarding airway clearance techniques in order to optimise respiratory function and slow disease progression. Presented by Dr. Fiona Moran (Physiotherapy Manager at RCH), this evening lecture aims to provide an update on best practice respiratory management for people living with CF across the lifespan, with particular focus in the paediatric setting (0-18 years).
