Brian Mulligan Examination and Treatment for Lower Quadrant
This two-day course presents the Mulligan approach to manual therapy for the lumbar spine and sacroiliac joint as well as for the lower extremity. It includes lecture, patient demonstrations, and lab time to give the participants a thorough and in depth coverage of the Mobilization with Movement approach for the lower quarter. This unique approach to manual therapy was discovered and developed by Brian Mulligan F.N.Z.S.P. (Hon), Dip. M.T. from Wellington, New Zealand. This simple yet effective manual approach addresses musculoskeletal disorders with pain free manual joint “repositioning” techniques for restoration of function and abolition of pain.
At the completion of this course, participants should: • Be aware of the Scandinavian concept of joint mobilisation • Have a basic understanding of the Mulligan concept of mobilisation with movement (MWM) and be able to integrate the clinical reasoning process on which it is based into existing eclectic examination models • Be able to perform basic MWM and self – MWM treatment techniques for the lower limbs and lumbar spine • Be able to perform NAGs and SNAGs for the lumbar spine • Be able to perform spinal mobilisation with leg movement techniques • Be able to perform MWM for neural tissue of the spine and lower limbs • Have a basic understanding of the “Pain Release Phenomenon” (PRP) concept and be able to perform PRP techniques to structures of the lower limbs • Be aware of current research related to the Mulligan concept.
