Aquatic Physiotherapy Level 1


This course is essential to anyone practicing in aquatic physiotherapy. The course is conducted over one or two full days depending on your undergraduate training and work experience. It is designed to provide participants with practical and theoretical knowledge on the physiology of immersion, hydrostatics, hydrodynamics and rotational control in water. It includes evidence-based practice, clinical reasoning skills and also covers the APA guideline document for physiotherapists working in and managing hydrotherapy pools. This course is designed for physiotherapists wishing to update or refine their aquatic skills.
At the completion of the course, participants should be able to: • Discuss benefits, hazards, indications and APA clinical standards for physios working in hydrotherapy • Understand physiology of immersion and relate to precautions/contraindications • Understand hydrostatic and hydrodynamic effects of a body in water • Understand and demonstrate basic hydrotherapy techniques including exercise prescription, some Bad Ragaz patterns, joint mobilising and relaxation • Apply evidence-based reasoning, assessment and outcome measures
